The contents of a golf day gift pack are rarely the problem. The logistics around them reliably are.

Order it made up

Three hundred packs assembled by hand is an evening’s work for two people, done badly, the night before. Ordering the pack as a single made-up item removes it entirely.

It also removes the counting error. Packs made up and bagged by the supplier arrive as a known number, which is not true of five boxes of components.

Count the way the day runs

Ask for packs counted per fourball or per table rather than in hundreds. The starter then hands over a bag rather than doing arithmetic at first light.

If players are named, send the list as a spreadsheet and have the bands printed and boxed in table order. It costs nothing extra and it looks like somebody thought about it.

Book the delivery before the date, not on it

A pack that arrives on the morning of the event has failed even if it is perfect. Aim for a week of slack, and treat any supplier who cannot commit to that with suspicion.

Three to four weeks from artwork approval is comfortable. Express turnaround exists, and it is for emergencies rather than for planning.

Consider not printing a sleeve at all

For a single afternoon, a printed belly band round a sleeve of a ball people already like is cheaper, faster and often better received than a custom sleeve on an unfamiliar ball.

Spend the difference on the contents. A decent marker survives the day; the packaging goes in a bin at the turn.
